Woody's Windows Watch
becomes Windows Secrets
It made more sense for us as publishers to
combine forces with another publisher with similar aims and
attitudes. We feel that Brian Livingston can continue the tradition
and standards of Woody’s WINDOWS Watch for the benefit of all
readers.
Nothing.
We’ll manage the merger of the newsletters and all subscribers email
addresses.
If you have anti-spam measures in place you
might want to ‘white-list’ our new domain to make sure the merged
newsletter arrives – see below.
If you’re already a subscriber to WWW and
Brian’s newsletter at the same email address, you don’t have to
do anything. Any duplicate email addresses we find during the
merger will be automatically removed, leaving only one copy of
Windows Secrets going to that address.
The first combined issue of WWW and the Windows
Secrets Newsletter will be send to all subscribers (including all
the WWW subscribers) on
22 July 2004. You'll also receive a brief welcome e-mail on
19 July 2004 to confirm this.
The first combined issue on 22 July will also
include updated contact information, subscription details, and other
administrivia for our subscribers.
As many readers know, there are a variety of
anti-spam products operating to filter email. Some are on your
computer and others are controlled by your ISP. Sometimes these
measures mistakenly block legitimate newsletters like those from
Woody’s Watch and now Windows Secrets.
We have no control over these anti-spam
measures, we can only send an issue to the people who ask for it and
hope it arrives at its destination.
If you have control over your anti-spam systems
then we suggest you do this to increase your chances of getting the
new merged ezine:
To make sure you continue to receive the
newsletter, you should add our new "From" address or domain to your
e-mail program's Address Book and any "whitelist" or"approved senders list" it uses.
Either the entire domain
WindowsSecrets.com or the specific email address we’ll use:

If you unsubscribe from Woody’s Windows Watch
by 14 July 2004, then you won’t be included in the new, merged,
newsletter.
After 19 July 2004, you can unsubscribe from
the Windows Secrets Newsletter at any time from
http://WindowsSecrets.com/unsubscribe .
The policy of WWW has always been that you, the
reader, have the choice to unsubscribe at any time – the policy
continues with the Windows Secrets Newsletter.
During the changeover period it is best to use
the web site to unsubscribe rather than the email links at the
bottom of each WWW.
If you do NOT wish to receive WWW after it merges with the Windows
Secrets Newsletter, simply use the following
link to unsubscribe no later than July 14, 2004:
http://woodyswatch.com/windows/mrgunsub.asp
.
Beginning July 19, 2004, you can also unsubscribe by visiting
the following unsubscribe page:
http://WindowsSecrets.com/unsubscribe
Note: from 14 July to 19 July there will be a
transition period of five days during which neither of the
unsubscribe methods may not work. We’ll try to keep this time as
short as possible. If you wish you can try this manual method
during the transition period only:
From 15 July 2004 through 18 July 2004, unsubscribe from the
merged newsletter by sending a blank email to the following
email address:
- w-leave "at" WindowsSecrets "dot" com
- with your email address in the Subject line as follows:
leave name@example.com
If you need personal assistance during this time,
please write to the combined newsletter's new "Editor@" e-mail
address shown above.
The policy of WWW has always been that you, the
reader, have the choice to unsubscribe at any time – the policy
continues with the Windows Secrets Newsletter..
Nothing, nil, ziltch, nada, not a sausage - WWW
was free to all readers and the free Windows Secrets Newsletter will
also be sent to you without charge.
You'll receive more information about options and preferences for
the Windows Secrets Newsletter after the merger has been completed
on 22 July 2004.
Brian Livingston is the co-author of Windows 2000 Secrets,
Windows Me Secrets, and eight other Windows Books. He's been a
contributing editor of PC World, Windows Magazine, Windows Sources,
PC/Computing, and eWeek, and was a contributing editor of InfoWorld
Magazine for almost 12 years (1991-2003). For 2-1/2 years, he edited
the E-Business Secrets Newsletter, which was also published by
InfoWorld. He launched his own newsletter, Brian's Buzz on Windows,
in February 2003. That publication is merging with Woody's Windows
Watch on 22 July 2004 and the combined newsletter is being renamed
the Windows Secrets Newsletter.
There is no change to the rest of
Woody’s Watch. Woody’s OFFICE Watch, Office for Mere Mortals,
Access Watch and Email Essentials will continue
publishing as before.
The merger only applies to Woody’s WINDOWS
Watch.
If you have a question not covered in this FAQ,
please write to Peter Deegan, the Editor in Chief of Woody’s Watch
at
mergerquery@woodyswatch.com He’ll try to reply as soon as he
can, but please keep in mind the different time zones (Peter is in
Europe at the moment) and the extra workload for everyone at Woody’s
Watch and Windows Secrets during the merger.
